GetMSG Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Short version

GetMSG processes your files entirely on your Mac. We do not collect, transmit, store, sell, or share your messages, attachments, contacts, or personal data. No tracking. No analytics. No third-party SDKs.

1. What GetMSG does on your Mac

  • Parses Outlook .msg, TNEF winmail.dat, and XPS / OXPS files that you open via double-click, drag-and-drop, or File → Open.
  • Renders the message or document inside the app window.
  • Lets you copy text, save attachments to folders you choose, and set GetMSG as the default handler for those extensions (optional, off by default).

All of this runs on your machine. Your files are never uploaded.

2. What GetMSG does NOT do

  • No analytics SDK (no Amplitude, Mixpanel, Firebase, Adjust, etc.).
  • No crash reporter that transmits your data. Apple's own crash reporter, if enabled by you, sends anonymised stack traces to Apple — not to us.
  • No account creation. No sign-in. No email collection inside the app.
  • No advertising identifier (IDFA) access.
  • No location, microphone, camera, or address-book access.
  • No passive listening for files on disk. We only look at what you open.

3. Network access (strictly limited)

GetMSG makes network requests only in these narrow cases:

  • In-App Purchase (Pro upgrade): StoreKit talks to Apple's servers to process the purchase. Apple's privacy policy governs that exchange. We receive no personal data — only an anonymous entitlement indicating whether your Apple ID owns the Pro unlock.
  • License revocation check: At launch the app may fetch a short signed list of revoked license serials from https://getmsg.getinfo.com.tw/crl.json. The request contains no identifiers beyond your IP address (visible to our CDN, Cloudflare, in the normal course of serving HTTP). No per-user data is transmitted or stored by us.
  • HTML message images (opt-in only): HTML email bodies sometimes reference remote images. By default GetMSG blocks all such requests so senders cannot use tracking pixels to learn when or where you opened their message. You can toggle "Load remote images in messages" in Settings to allow them. When enabled, requests go directly from your Mac to the image hosts — we are not in the middle.

We do not run analytics, telemetry, crash collection, or any other background traffic.

4. Data stored on your Mac

  • Preferences (language, file associations, remote-image toggle): stored via macOS UserDefaults.
  • License state (for offline Pro verification): stored in the macOS Keychain, scoped to the GetMSG developer team ID so rebuilds by us don't re-prompt and other apps cannot read it.
  • No message cache. Parsed messages and their attachments are held in memory for the life of the open window and discarded when you close it. GetMSG does not index or persist your mailbox.

5. Mac App Store and In-App Purchase

If you purchase GetMSG Pro through the Mac App Store, your transaction is handled by Apple. Apple's privacy terms apply at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/. We do not receive your payment details.

6. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where changes are material, surface them in the app's next release notes.
