Common questions
How do I open a .msg file? add
Open GetMSG, drop the .msg file onto the window (or double-click — you can set GetMSG as the default handler in Settings → Default file handlers). The message renders immediately; attachments show in the sidebar and can be opened in their default app for free, or exported with Pro.
What is winmail.dat? add
Microsoft Exchange sometimes wraps forwarded mail in a proprietary TNEF envelope called winmail.dat. Apple Mail can't decode it; GetMSG has a native Swift TNEF parser built in. Drop the file and the original message + attachments appear.
Does it work offline? add
Yes. GetMSG parses every supported format entirely on-device. You can pull your Mac off the network and every file will still open.
Can I set GetMSG as the default .msg / winmail.dat / XPS handler? add
Yes. Open Settings → Default file handlers and toggle each extension on. macOS will route matching files to GetMSG from Finder and Mail.
Why is my .msg attachment showing garbled text? add
Some legacy messages use non-Unicode encodings (e.g., Big5, GB18030). GetMSG attempts auto-detection; if the body renders incorrectly, please send us a sample via support@getinfo.com.tw and we'll add the encoding to the next release.
I bought Pro but the Pro badge is gone after restore. add
In the paywall, tap "Restore Purchases" while signed in to the same Apple ID you bought with. If that fails, email us with your purchase date; we can verify the receipt and help.
Is there a Windows or Linux version? add
No — GetMSG is macOS-only. Windows users can open these files with Outlook and Paint/Print dialogues natively. An iPadOS version is being scoped for a later release.
How do I get an enterprise license? add
Email support@getinfo.com.tw with your team size and deployment context. You'll receive a custom quote along with a signed .getmsg-license file and an MDM Config Profile template suitable for Intune, Jamf, Kandji, Omnissa, or any Apple-MDM-compliant MDM.
Didn't find your answer?
Send us the file (or describe the behaviour) and we'll take a look.
